The Degree Curriculum
Over the course of 37 months, Dr. Berry completed 14 online courses where he gained additional knowledge about the diagnosis, pathobiology, and treatment of maxillofacial diseases and disorders. This involved attending a weekly video conference where students analyzed, diagnosed, and prepared treatment plans for TMJ disorders as well as neoplastic, dysplastic, infectious, neoplastic proliferative, and ulcerative oral and pharyngeal mucosal diseases.
He was also required to attend two-week courses at USC every summer for two weeks each year during the three-year period. These courses involved face-to-face assessment courses and clinical, written, and oral exams. Students also gained experience diagnosing and treating patients at the USC OFOPM center.
During the program, Dr. Berry was also required to prepare a portfolio of cases and present a research project report. Lastly, Dr. Berry also learned about working with patients with various neurogenic, salivary, odontogenic, and osseous infections, diseases, and tumors. These included oral spasticity, migraine, chronic daily headache, sleep apnea disorders, and neuropathic pain.
