Welcome to 2018. Now that 2017 is behind us, it’s a great time to look back at the year that was and consider its impacts. Enter all the year-end retrospectives, some of which are more interesting than others (top 10 retractions, anyone? Anyone?) One of the more interesting lists that came out at the end of the year was a listing of all the major health concerns that Americans focused on last year, according to Google searches.

Of particular interest is how prominent snoring was in the searches. And not just snoring, but several health concerns related to snoring and sleep apnea popped up on the list as well.

Snoring, Impacts Dominated Top 10 Health Concerns in 2017

The Top 10 Health Questions

According to Google and CNN, the Top 10 Health Questions people were searching last year were:

  1. What causes hiccups?
  2. How to stop snoring?
  3. What causes kidney stones?
  4. Why am I so tired?
  5. How long does the flu last?
  6. What is normal blood pressure?
  7. How to lower cholesterol?
  8. What causes high blood pressure?
  9. What is ADHD?
  10. What is lupus?

Some of these are perpetual questions that people ask, such as the question of what causes hiccups. But many of the others are related to real health concerns people have. It’s notable that search for snoring treatment was the second most common question. But many of the others were related to snoring and the health effects of sleep apnea.

“Why am I so tired?” is obviously linked to sleep apnea. Daytime sleepiness and low energy is one of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea (along with snoring, which may or may not be related to sleep apnea). It’s also notable that there are two questions about blood pressure. Elevated blood pressure is a common warning sign of heart disease. It’s also strongly linked to sleep apnea.

Finally, there’s ADHD. Although there are many potential explanations for this common affliction of schoolchildren (and those who teach them), it’s commonly associated with sleep apnea due to poor sleep.

So that means that snoring and sleep apnea are linked to about half of the most common health questions people search.

Is Snoring Your Top Health Concern?

With the prevalence of snoring concerns, it’s like that it’s one of your top health concerns, too. If that’s the case, you’re probably also frustrated with over-the-counter snoring remedies. You might think there’s no remedy to your snoring, but you’d be wrong. There are effective snoring treatments available.

To learn how to effectively treat your snoring without CPAP (even if it’s linked to sleep apnea), please call (303) 691-0267 today for an appointment with a Denver sleep dentist at the TMJ Therapy & Sleep Center of Colorado.
