Mild sleep apnea works similarly, except instead of a narrow airway, the airway becomes blocked for short periods during sleep. Your body senses the excess CO2 (and lack of oxygen) and awakens you to resume breathing.

eXciteOSA® is a revolutionary new treatment for snoring and mild sleep apnea, as well as a supplemental treatment for those using a CPAP or oral appliance therapy for moderate and severe sleep apnea. Make an appointment with your Denver sleep dentist to find out more.

Does eXciteOSA® really work?

The question on everyone’s mind is, “does this new treatment really work?” We are pleased to say that yes! eXciteOSA® does really work. However, just like all things, you must use it properly, in the right scenario, and with realistic expectations.

eXciteOSA® is a daytime treatment for snoring and mild sleep apnea. It can also be used as a supplemental treatment for more severe types of sleep apnea. With eXciteOSA® treatment in Denver, you can:

  • Eliminate snoring.
  • Lessen very loud snoring.
  • Treat mild obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Aid the treatment of moderate sleep apnea.
  • Aid the treatment of severe sleep apnea.

Please note that eXciteOSA® is not a stand-alone treatment for moderate or severe sleep apnea.

How It Works

Here are the basics of how eXciteOSA® works, with a more in-depth explanation aftward:

  1. eXciteOSA® is a daytime treatment.
  2. It’s a mouthpiece that delivers an electrical current to your tongue.
  3. You use an app to customize your therapy session.
  4. You can track your sessions through the app.
  5. Use in 20-minute sessions once a day for six weeks.
  6. After that, only two 20-minute sessions per week are required to keep your progress.

Your upper airway muscles are just like any other muscle. They’re incredibly strong because you use them all day; however, they can become fatigued and have endurance trouble at night. eXciteOSA® is a removable mouthpiece you use once a day or a few times a week to stimulate or exercise your upper airway muscles.

The electrical current is soft and doesn’t hurt, but it improves the function of your airway muscles, just like exercise improves the function of the other muscles in your body. In essence, eXciteOSA® targets the root cause of your mild OSA or snoring by strengthening your muscles so you can breathe without obstruction throughout the night.

After using eXciteOSA®, your snoring will be lessened or eliminated, and you’ll get the oxygen you need during sleep, resulting in a restful sleep that leaves you ready for the next day.

eXciteOSA® is FDA-approved, and you’ll need a prescription from your Denver sleep dentist to get it.

eXciteOSA® As a Stand-Alone Treatment

Obstructive sleep apnea is considered sleep-disordered breathing. Many doctors describe sleep-disordered breathing as a scale with obstructive sleep apnea being the most severe form. On the other end, snoring is a light form of sleep-disordered breathing. However, it can be hard to self-diagnose because those with obstructive sleep apnea often snore. Meaning that the presence of snoring does not preclude you from having sleep apnea, and neither does the absence of snoring.

Snoring

eXciteOSA® can be used as a stand-alone treatment for snoring, but it’s hard to tell if your snoring is just snoring or if it results from obstructive sleep apnea.
If you snore very loud—loud enough to awaken others or yourself—it’s a good idea to get a sleep test, if only to exclude the possibility of sleep apnea. If you need recommendations on sleep testing, your Denver sleep dentist, Dr. Berry, can help.

If you find that you don’t have obstructive sleep apnea, eXciteOSA® could help to eliminate your snoring by strengthening your tongue muscles and now allowing them to sag and narrow your airway.

Mild Sleep Apnea

Your sleep study may reveal that you have mild sleep apnea. If so, eXciteOSA® can still help.

Those with mild sleep apnea experience a narrowing and occasional obstruction in their airway caused by the tongue. eXciteOSA® will stimulate and improve the performance of your tongue muscles so you can sleep peacefully without awakening due to apnea episodes.

eXciteOSA® is not a stand-alone treatment for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. However, you can use it alongside your moderate to severe sleep apnea to improve the performance of your CPAP or oral appliance therapy.

If you have moderate to severe OSA, simulating your tongue to strengthen your upper airway muscles won’t be enough to treat your sleep-breathing disorder. However, it can help to lessen the severity and extent of your apnea episodes and the snoring you experience because of it.
